CONTEMPORARY JAZZ MUSIC GENRE - DOES ADHERING TO A GENRE LIMIT CREATIVITY ?

Hi there!

 THANK YOU, THE LISTENER!

Maybe you already love listening to the contemporary jazz genre (also known as “smooth jazz”) and maybe you are a new listener. As an independent contemporary jazz artist, I am grateful for the support of the smooth jazz stations, smooth jazz playlists and jazz listeners who play my songs. I realize there are many great current smooth jazz keyboard players on the smooth jazz stations such as Brian Culbertson, Greg Manning and Lisa Addeo. Two of my favorite jazz pianists whose concerts I was excited to attend are Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea.

MY APPROACH TO MUSIC STYLE

It is more important for me to create music that is kinetic in the sense of what I create is the musical universe that envelops me in the present than to adhere to a specific genre. I do not write a jazz piece because I’m thought of as a jazz musician. I have a background in music theory and music street survival. With that, I also understand the challenges musicians and music creators face with having to be put in a box so they can make a living. But if you just keep chasing that genre-specific rainbow to survive, you’ll end up losing a part of your musical soul, your music muse. So I stay true to what is real within my creativity and get that out for those who want to take a voyage away from the noise of life and tune into the music. Take a listen and give me a shout to let me know where the music takes you! Sample Gabe's Music Here or listen at your favorite streaming site . Streaming Sites
